The meaning of the word 'Crime' as per Oxford Dictionary is "an act or omission regarded as a serious offence against an individual or the state, and punishable by law."

The meaning of the word 'Criminal' as per Oxford Dictionary is "a person who has committed a crime or crimes."

In India, the criminal acts committed by persons are governed by the Indian Penal Code and procedure is prescribed under The Code of Criminal Procedure.

To impose punishments prescribed under the Indian Penal Code, the courts are bounded by The Code of Criminal Procedure.

It is difficult to define Criminal Law in one page as the criminal acts involves various aspects like, arrest by police, investigation, interrogation, recording evidence, putting forth defence, seeking anticipatory bail or bail, or parole. The circumstances under which, a person can be arrested by the police officers without warrant, or when can court grant anticipatory bail when a person is anticipating arrest from the police for no fault of his or to seek parole when sentenced to jail and to attend family functions or to attend religious functions or to visit any of his/her relatives on health ground or to attend funerals.
